Electronic Instrument Co. Inc, Eico ST-40 stereo amplifier
Ed ecco un altro apparecchio noto agli appassionati anche se forse il migliore come soluzioni tecniche e' l'Eico ST70. Anche questo ha ancora l'alimentazione a 117V, 60Hz tipicamente americana. Come molti amplificatori simili se non ben alimentati (con un variac stabilizzato) prima o poi si bruciano i trasformatori (consiglio 113-114V 50Hz).
Quello che vedete e' marcato 17 agosto 1964, preassemblato. Purtroppo anche questo e' stato rimaneggiato con componentistica diversa e non selezionata. Dalla foto qui sotto possiamo notare, partendo da sinistra vediamo il trasformatore di ingresso con sopra la GZ34 ed il condensatore (da sostituire), seguendo un trasformatore di uscita con le due finali, che mancano, sopra e ancora sopra le strane 12DW7-7427, a fianco l'altro trasformatore e sulla destra intorno al selettore di ingresso le due 12AX7 dello stadio phono con montata la schermatura metallica. Si nota qui anche l'altro condensatore da sostituire.
Lo schema elettrico non e' reperibile anche con un buona ricerca su Internet. Pero' sono riuscito ad ottenerne una copia, continuate a leggere questa pagina (The schematic diagram or circuit is not easy to find please read follow in this page).
Yes many thank to Ron Lilly a HiFi user in VA, USA. I find the name in a newsgroup and ask for circuit. After some mistake I receive the schematic diagrams and make digitalisation with an old scanner. The result is not so good as I need but, I think, is not in Internet other schematics of Eico ST40 (or if you like ST-40).
Next you can find the original, available not for make copy and not for modify but only for studying or repair by yourself. Please no Copyright violation.
Sorry for 10 Mbytes of documents, I think with good scanner, reducing DPI, with powerful software I can reduce to 2/3 the dimensions, next.
Be careful, any modification of genuine old HiFi equipements (or table, or paint, or machine) put values at ZERO for collecters or antique buyers.
There are a lot of circuits for modify old tubes amps. This one, by request of owner, is a "straight line" upgrade. The principals change are: cut off the high-bass potentiometer, cut a half of high-bass tube, remove olds balance volume control knobs.
For the new volume control I use a good A&B single 330 Kohm linear variable resistor, one for left and one for right. Also I use the EC82 section of 12DW7 tube and maintain the low frequency filter and half of high frequency filter. In this .PNG picture (~80KB) you can find the "straight line" modification of ST-40.
