History

  Possibly the most famous amplifier in the history of hi-fi.

  Even for the history of the S.P Fidelity Sound Systems (then The Acoustical Manufacturing Company Limited and finally Quad Electroacoustics Limited) There are hundreds of pages in Internet. Why write another one?

  After days and days of research here are links to the history of this brand and on the products, unfortunately tomorrow these pages could disappear (you wanted ephemeral internet, you keep it).

• The history of Peter James Walker with the genesis of Quad amplifier, see "Quad History" at quadesl.org, unfortunately with some errors,
• If you know the French here is a page with the history of Quad and with many beautiful photos of brochures, with even some unobtainable schematics. The page talk about the "Quad I", the second domestic amplify product,
• To really know the story .... you have to know the Portuguese. Here are various pages with the true story SP Fidelity Sound Systems, start reading from here "or Primeiro Amplificador Comercial", then read this page "or Transformador Quad II Original", and then continue reading "classic Integrated", and read, but unsuggested, the page with "um projeto de construção doméstica de um equipamento similar ao Quad Classic" inspired to the ideas of Peter Walker.
  These pages are full of photos and vintage documents, even of speakers who have launched ideas taken from other manufacturers,
• Of course if you like to read a fake history you can read the "official Quad" web page,
• The Quad today? Please read this page: In 1993 QUAD Electroacoustics was sold to an investing group associated with Farad Azim, ex-owner of another famous British brand - Mission. And finally company was bought (together with factory) by International Audio Group, Ltd., that was also an owner of companies like: Mission, Castle, Wharfedale and Audiolab. New owner moved QUAD to China together with production lines, machinery and know-how.
• Finally must cited a Reissue (similar to Marantz 8b, 7, and 9), probably produced in only 600 pieces, see a review of Ken Kessler in 1996, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3.

  Part of history are definitely the original brochures and illustrative booklets, we thank UK Hi-Fi History Society for having collected them and photographed.

  Some Quad II was produced for "special applications" for professional, industrial, scientific use, see at the end of this thread, more see those photo: with larger power trasformer, for professional use.

Repair web pages

  All the technicians you know will tell you that they know how to repair a quad II. But the risk of disrupt completely a collectible device is really high, look fig.1 and all the errors made by that repairman.
